Sure no CD player but am I missing why I shouldn't buy this
Pioneer MVH-X171UI
$40 stereo?Well maybe this package for $89 is better because it has speakers which I can't use because miata already has new door speaker this one also has a CD player.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
i would be sad to get rid of my old stock and its little icon showing a little miata to show whether the top is up or not and the stock boring don't break into my car looks. tape and CDplayer!
I HATE STEREOS FOR CARS!!!
Why have they not advanced? We got smartphones with HD screens! but oh wowee this new stereo has bluetooth and ipod control as they have had for years and years but it still gots a display like my alarm clock.

The stock radio displays if the top is up or down! Strange, is it for people with bad necks?
If that's your car in the picture then a double DIN unit would be better, pioneer has some nice double DIN units with non-clock radio screens.

My least favorite part about aftermarket head units is how they all look like they are stuck in the early '00s rice scene for styling.

In regards to your last paragraph, are you talking about aftermarket radios or your stock OE head unit?
The OE radio was made like 20 years ago, so it was fine for the era. Not outdated by the contemporary standards.
If you're talking about aftermarket, easy. It's because too many cars come with non-standard size displays making aftermarket fit difficult, and they now also control far more than just the radio, which means replacing it will cost you a LOT of features in the car! However, there are still expensive aftermarket units that *do* have the features you mention, but they're like $400+

Personally I would spend a little more for a double DIN unit with a touchscreen to look a little more professional. You also haven't factored in the price of the brackets and harnesses. I put this one in my 2008 vw rabbit in a little under an hour.

I highly recommend using crutchfield as they show everything you need to fit to specific models of cars.
The only thing I'm regretting is taking apart the dash after christmas (in a cold ass garage) to fit new lightning cables when I replace my iPhone 4s. Might add a rearview camera while I'm at it but that might require a lot more work considering I haven't even wired in the transmission yet.

Got to pay to play if you want a "modern" aftermarket infotainment system like Pioneer AppRadio http://www.amazon.com/PIONEER-AppRad…

The only stereos I know that are remotely classy looking are Blaupunkt: http://www.blaupunkt.com/en/products/ca… Pictured is the double-DIN "New Orleans 220" model:
They still have the segmented lcd display, but it looks less cheap than the others.

Isn't there a simple, double-DIN, full face touchscreen based on one of those $100 android tablets? That plus some tuner circuitry and and an amp is all you need.

I hate aftermarket stereos because they look aftermarket. Nothing looks OEM with big chunky buttons. They're all LCD displays with flashing lights, square, plastic buttons, and it's just way out of place.

I could get by that if they at least looked good sitting apart, but they don't.

I bought my Boss Audio 612ua off amazon for $30. I didn't want something that looked too aftermarket. Bland but just enough blue lights to let you know it's aftermarket.

I know it sucks cuz all the new ones are all flashy and lights and chrome and black shiny plastic.
